Moving Out

Ah.... the thrill and stress of moving! First, you try to make your house look perfect.... then you deconstruct it and stack boxes everywhere! Good-bye townhouse.....

Here is the boring story of selling and buying and moving.... for posterity......

We sold our townhouse and bought a new house! It happened very quickly.... we didn't have any showings over the holidays, and then someone wanted to see the house the same night we were doing the Lion King extravaganza. I freaked out, and told them they couldn't come. Luckily for me, we had a showing the next day, and then that next week, and then we got an offer! We negotiated the offer, while also looking at the up-to-date real estate listings online. Once the deal was officially signed, we went out to our top two neighborhoods with our realtor. One house stood out from the rest, but we decided to think it over. The house we loved was located conveniently to the freeway, shops and Tim's work. It had a great layout and a fantastic kitchen. Because it was a spec home, the price was right, and ultimately it just couldn't compare with some existing homes. So we put in an offer the next day, which was accepted. The next week we worked on the mortgage papers. The week after that our townhouse was inspected, and we inspected the new house. The week after that we walked through the new house with the builder, the mortgage was finalized with insurance, the utilities set up for the new house, and we completed most of the items on the townhouse inspection list. Then we finished packing up the townhouse. We had a final walk-through on the new house. The funny part was a new realtor came with us because our realtor was at a conference. The new realtor kept saying how beautiful the house was, and how great the kitchen was. It was funny, because you expect realtor's to be jaded and bored with looking at houses :) Then we went to sign the papers on the new house, and borrowed the minivan to move a few things over. The movers arrived to sprinkling rain, and quickly loaded up the townhouse. Thank goodness the rain ended. While the movers unloaded our boxes and furniture, the appliances arrived, and the internet and tv service was set up. It really could not have been coordinated any better. Then we unpacked and settled in. I love the house and the location. I love being close enough that my sister and parents can drop by for a quick visit.

Based on my experience, I can say that moving is stressful. It takes time in order for you to pack and organize the stuff you need to bring in your new home. But, on a lighter note, it’s fun! It is during the packing process wherein you can spot again things that you haven’t seen for a long time. You then suddenly remember that you have this and that, and see something that you thought you lost for good. :D
