Week in Review

I remember when I started this blog, I used to have all sorts of clever ideas about titles and stuff to write. But I think work has zapped me of any creativity.

First, my vanity. It is gorgeous weather in North Carolina right now, sunny days, crystal clear blue skies, between 70 and 80 degrees, just gorgeous. What this means is most of us break out our shorts (or capris) and skirts and our super-cute sandals. As my family would describe me, I am translucent. So when I break out my jean skirt and super-cute sandals, what you notice is the blinding whiteness between the end of my skirt and my shoes. So every year I wish to be tan, and every year, I am not. But this year I am going to the beach with some friends for Memorial Day, so there is even more pressure to be tan. But I obviously can't go to a tanning bed, because that is UV rays, and my sister has skin cancer. So after hearing commercials for the month of April about the mystic tans and how easy it is to get a spray on tan and there is no orange color like lotions, I decided I had had enough and I was going to try it. Of course, what is running through my head is the episode of Friends where Ross tries it. So I went, and I was able to turn around at the right time, but you don't see the color for several hours. So then by the time I started seeing some color, I realized that I had gotten too much on my wrists, and that I had a streak on my arm and legs. So then I tried to scrub it off....... but it was too late. Lucky for me the spray on tan only lasts through about three showers, so by Monday I was pretty much back to pasty white. Now.... do I try a lotion? :)

Second, a fun day. Saturday was gorgeous weather and I went to New Bern with a friend to see Tryon Palace. I had never been. It was the house of the governor of the colony of North Carolina, so it was built before the Revolution. They had done a great job restoring it. We got to see someone making a gun the old fashioned way.... meaning by hand. The gardens were beautiful, and the stories of the people who lived there were great. It was a very enjoyable day.

Third, a successful cooking venture. Sunday was Stake Conference, so my roommate and I decided to invite people over to Sunday dinner. I usually go to Mom and Dad's for Sunday dinner, but decided to give this a whirl. I may or may not have blogged about my last cooking venture, where I burnt everything and had to soak and scrub the pan for a week to get it clean. Needless to say, I told myself it was cheaper to just buy prepackaged food after that. Lucky for me I have a roommate who is a very good cook. So I said I would make sopapillas if she would do the main dish. If you don't know what sopapillas are, write me a message, and maybe you will get invited to the next dinner. The sopapillas were a big hit, everyone loved them, they puffed up better than the last time I tried to make them (although, I still contend not as good as my mom's), and I can now say I might try cooking again in the future.

Fourth, a busy work week. We had a major delivery this week, and then people wanted a second one. The automation blew up, so I kept having to reset it by hand. The AIX expert's wife had a baby, so I had to pretend I knew how to install on AIX. Three people decided to go on vacation. And to top it off, other people were calling me on my desk phone (which is very strange in an IT company.... usually it is all email or chat) wanting help with their problems. At this moment in time, I am just grateful I get to go work Race for the Cure and not deal with work for a while. Although.... since I had to call two of the people who were on vacation with questions, I am a little nervous that people will call me :)

i've always wanted to try the spray tan. but i've found that the Jergens lotion with a bronzer gives you a nice little tint without streaking. . .

K Heather. I wont be able to make it to dinner, but maybe you can shoot me an email about these things called sopapilla. I am really curious! :)

And my goal/resolution for this year was to cook more. So far, not so good.

Tell me more about sopapillas. Perhaps pictures would help also :) I'm probably too far away to come for dinner, but feel free to email me when you've got a chance.
